Isaak headed to UNC for Surgery

I had a long post working to update everyone, but this will have to suffice:

  1. Isaak began getting very distended in his belly a couple of days ago.
  2. It was bad enough that it was complicating breathing so they put him on a vent.
  3. He's been on antibiotics for 48 hours with no change in condition and is showing some discoloration on his abdomen.
  4. They are now worried it could be NEC or another complication and feel that surgery is warranted.
  5. The surgeon they would like to look at him is at UNC and we will be transporting him to Chapel Hill.
Pray hard.

QUICK UPDATE: As of 1:30pm, Isaak is now ensconced in his new home. They are getting all of his vitals hooked up and we should meet with a surgeon pretty soon. We aren't sure yet if they will definitely be doing surgery or more observation for the time being. They are going to try to put an arterial line in so they can more easily monitor his blood gas and take samples for blood cultures without having to stick his little heels all the time. Let's hope that works better than trying to put little Penny's PICC in!

  3. Neil & Bekka,
If Isaak has to stay at UNC for more than a few days remember the SECU Family House, an affordable alternative for critical care patients and their families. It's just minutes from the hospital and they even have a shuttle...it's very afforadable based on what you can pay...Its set up like a home away from home with a kitchen stocked with communal food & everything...Have your Doctor or a hospital social worker refer you if you need it....I volunteered there last year for about a year...Anyway, their direct # is 932-8000. We love you and you all remain in our prayers.

  4. Our prayers are continuing for Isaak, his doctors, for Penny and the two of you. Neil, I wish I could just hold you and kiss the hurt away as I did when you were little. I wish I could do the same for Bekka but being the mother of adult children isn't that easy. We'll see you guys later today. PLEASE keep us posted on what's happening. We love you....Mom & Dad

Asking God to send out more angelic support for all concerned. May you all sense His presence as He directs the doctor's decisions and hands. Father, we trust You...have mercy on this family and bring Issak through this with flying colors! Amen

Dearest Neal and Bekka - Know that we really are PRAYING HARD, as requested for little Isaak. Of course Penny is not out of the loop, but there is certainly some specific concentration on Isaak just now. The only salvation for this unbelievable time is knowing our gracious Lord and believing He is in charge. Prayers for the surgeons and doctors who will be caring for and establishing Isaak's care over the next days. Thank you for so lovingly keeping us informed. You are an AWESOME Dad!
    Love - the knotts
