Quick Update on the Twins

Just wanted to let everyone know that everything is going fine. We finally have some pics of Penny (with her eyes closed, sadly). I'll get those up tomorrow in the evening. Between trying to get some sleep, going back to work and visiting the little ones, it's been a busy day. The last few weeks seem like such a blur and it's so hard to believe they will be 6 days old tomorrow morning.

The little guys are still experiencing periodic bradycardia and apnea episodes but these have continued to be short and almost completely self-correcting. Periodically the nurses do have to jiggle them or tickle them a bit to speed up recovery. The nurses tell us they'll likely experience these episodes right up until they go home but they will get better with time. So often in the last month, hurrying up and waiting seems to be on the agenda every day. Overall, they truly are doing well and have exhibited no other issues except for the elevated bilirubin levels. Both are under bili lights again, but are expected to be off tomorrow. Again, this will be a common occurrence.

In exciting and very positive news, their feeds get upped tomorrow to 2ml every 3 hours. This is double what they are getting now and is a great sign they are tolerating mommy's delicious homemade milk (really, you should see them smack their lips when they get a little in their cheeks). Stomach residuals have gotten a little better every day indicating that processing is occurring. Now we just need a couple of tiny poopie diapers to make the nurses, docs and proud parents happy.

Something I forgot to mention yesterday: They are both in the same cubicle now so we can visit them together! If all goes well, they will eventually wind up in the same crib, but this is so much nicer for us to not have to "choose" which baby to visit.

Remember, pics tomorrow with any luck!

  2. Thanks Neil for all of the interesting news. I continue to be amazed and thankful for how well Penny & Isaak are doing. I would have been down in person to see the "little guys: already but Dave tells me we aren't allowed even in viewing distance of where they are. I still may just have to come down soon and give you and Bekka hugs for you and hugs for them.
Love ya, Mom & Pop Milloway -
For any of you out there reading this blog and wondering who this Mom & Pop are - We are Dave Milloway's parents and Neil spent enough time at our home in his & Dave's growing up days, we claimed Neil as a son and we might add with no regrets, we're quite proud of him & Bekka even as we are of Dave & Amanda.

  3. I am loving these updates. My family's prayers are with you and the babies constantly. My kids ask me several times a day if there's any news about "the teeny tiny twins". Although I know the lil' peanuts have a long road ahead, it's so encouraging to hear about so many things that are going well. --Beth Mears

  4. Yes, Neil and Dave were almost inseparable as they were growing up. If he wasn't at the Milloways, Dave was at our house. We're very thankful for the Milloways and the part they've played in our lives. We will be glad to share our precious Penelope and Isaak with them.

We're also thankful for how well Penelope, Isaak, Bekka and Neil are doing. We love each of them so very much and are so proud of the parents Neil and Bekka have become.

    We love you guys,
    Nana & Papaw

  5. It must be so nice to have the twins in the same cubicle! It was awful last weekend when Papaw and I had to choose which baby we wanted to visit first! I know the twins will be ecstatic being in the same crib. They have to be missing each other. Love, Nana

  6. Dear Rebekka and Neil,
I am so very thankful that all is going well.
Those babies are such a miracle and such a blessing, especially to you, but to the rest of your family and friends also. I am very happy that your mother has gotten to be there with you to help you. You can't imagine how difficult it is to be so far away, when you need us. Grandma was ecstatic today holding Penelope. I am sorry that I am unable to be there, but we all know Mom is worth four of me.
We are thankful for Grant and Pam, as well as the rest of the family and all of your friends who have shown you such love. Take care of Isaak and Penelope, each other and your Mother.
    Love, Papa
